Henry Etta and Bruce Hinkle Hospice House, the first free-standing hospice inpatient facility to be built in Davidson County, will be located on 30 acres in the center of the county on US Hwy 64 East. This location will insure a green, well maintained and peaceful setting easily accessible from multiple major roadways including I-85 and NC Hwy 109. We expect to begin accepting patients in 2008.
What happens when caring for a patient at home isn’t an option? Last year more than 125 individuals in Davidson County’s service area could have been benefited from a Hospice House. These are individuals who may have no caregiver at home, whose caregiver is frail and elderly, or whose caregiver works outside of the home. Some symptoms become so acute that they can no longer be managed in the home. Without a Hospice House, the only alternative is hospitalization or nursing home placement. These are great options, but they aren’t for everyone or every situation. The inpatient facility model of care is a relatively new concept for providing end of life and palliative care. Communities that have opened a Hospice House have embraced this option of care and the services that Hospice can provide in a homelike environment. The inpatient facility will feature 12 beds in private rooms; each with its own bathroom, telephone, family area, and storage area. The inpatient facility will offer excellent bedside nursing with 24-hour staffing. Common areas include a central nursing station, kitchen, dining room, family room, children’s playroom and meditation room. The grounds will feature gardens and walking paths.
